Course Objectives:
Candidates would achieve the required Aviation English Level 4 proficiency standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Aviation enthusiasts who are aged 16 or above
- Require a minimum English language level of ICAO level 3 (Preoperational).
The course components are organized on the two types of Aviation English - (a) Plain English, and (b) Standard / Radiotelephony Phraseology. The former is to ensure that course participants are able to use and communicate in plain daily English accurately, appropriately and confidently in non-routine and/or emergency situations during flight operations. The latter is to enhance their competence in using the very specialized standard aviation expressions and phrases required of them for routine aviation situations.
The main thrust of the course is to enhance course candidates’ English communicative skills, namely listening and speaking skills. The specific listening and speaking skills focused in this course will address the very specific skills as required by the ICAO Language Profile Descriptors (Pronunciation, Structure, Vocabulary, Fluency, Comprehension and Interactions). All teaching/learning sessions will be contextualized and made meaningful and relevant via basic but real-life aviation topics and situations. Throughout the course, participants will be given ample opportunities to use both Plain English and Standard Phraseology via sustained listening and pronunciation practice work, video-viewing of emergency or non-routine flight operation scenarios, role plays, simulations, group and class presentations.
At the end of the course, candidates will take the Test of Aviation English Proficiency (TAEP). The test will be conducted by certified lecturers. Candidates that do not achieve an ICAO Level 4 score on the first test day will be offered the opportunity to retake the test.
A certificate of attendance will be presented to each candidate who meets the 80% attendance requirement.
Upon completion of the AEC, the candidates will be able to:
